Discuss Bryston's BDP-2 Digital Music Player

Internal v. External

by Elescher » Tue Oct 07, 2014 9:31 pm

I have had a BDP-2 for quite a while and have never really considered installing an Internal SSD until now. It kind of seems counterintuitive in a lot of ways. Can anyone clarify the benefits (if any) of installing one? I don't need any additional storage space and am only concerned with sonic improvements. Any mechanical noise from drive is of no concern as the unit is not in my music room.

I imagine you might want the last word from an engineer but to my knowledge it's all about personal preference for those not wanting one or more external drives connected with cables and possibly requiring power adapters as well. It's not about sonic performance, so you don't need to bother.

I have an internal SSD. I've also tried the same music on USB and via Ethernet, stored on my server. With almost all Bryston electronics and Aerial Acoustic 7T speakers, i can't hear any difference. I also can't hear a difference via my Audeze LCD-2's either.

If it's being instLled inside the BDP, I would go as far as buy a hard drive over a solid state drive as the you have the added benefit of the BDP's heavy steal enclosure to fallen the audible noise of the drive.

Since launching he BDP four years ago we have purchased dozens of hard drive and solid state drives and have found they all have similair rates of reliability and with the exception of audible noise, sound he same. Keep in mind most people would need to have there eat within inches of a hard drive before they could hear it.
