BDA3 UPDATING FIRMWARE 2016.11p (28/08/2017 by SB) Always start uploading of a new firmware when the unit is fully powered on, not in standby. Uploading the file BDA3_2016_11p.bin (revision 2016.11p) will result in updating the main firmware (~2 minutes), then the new controller software will reboot and will examine the PLD chip to decide if it is necessary to update the logic chip (PLD chip) firmware. If the PLD update is necessary then this will add about 5 more minutes to the programming time. If the uploading of the .bin file ends with errors then all front LEDs will flash red for a few seconds. In that case the unit should be re-standby'ed and the upload operation should be repeated. If the upload fails every time then the unit may need to be sent to Bryston for the factory re-program. Factory reprogramming will also reprogram the old bootloader code, which may be necessary for some early BDA3 units produced in 2015, however, the newer units made in 2016+ should never fail to upload. If the upload of the .bin file succeeds then the front LEDs will flash all green for a few seconds, following which the unit will automatically start reprogramming the main control software for about 30 seconds, then it will reboot. The next cycle is an optional reprogramming of the PLD chip, executed only if the controller detects that it is necessary by comparing the PLD firmware revision number (the correct PLD revision number should read 09:00001003). When the software determines that the PLD programming is necessary, the front LEDs will start flashing all orange and will keep flashing for about 5-8 minutes until the PLD programming cycle is completed. Do not interrupt it. This is done only once, the next time 2016.11p firmware powers up this will not be repeated. Firmware 2016.11p can be kept on and does not need to be replaced by the current production firmware 2016.05a. To examine the firmware revision, PLD revision and other parameters, the unit must be powered up (not in Standby!) then the INFOQS command may be executed from the Terminal emulation page of the BDA3 web GUI. %2330INFOQS. (Note: the dot at the end is part of the command when issued through the network connection!). To send and execute the command, click on the Cmd button. The resulting listing is described in the following document: http://support.bryston.com/downloads/BDA3/documents/BDA3_INFOQS_DESCRIPTION.txt An instruction how to connect to the network in order to upload the firmware, is described in the manual at: http://www.bryston.com/PDF/Manuals/BDA3_MANUAL.pdf ---
