New BDP-1

Just picked up a demo BDP-1 at a very good price and I had a couple of questions.

- Will any 1 TB portable HD meet with USB ports power requirements? I'm looking at a WD passport ultra

- Should I also get a powered USB like this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DQFGH80/ref ... 0T6C&psc=1

- Is it possible/advisable to upgrade the included flash memory card with one with more memory?

- Any other reccomended tweaks or mods? I was thinking about picking up a sinewave UPS. Anyone had any luck with those?

Thanks. Can't wait to get my unit.

1-TB drive should have maximum current requirement of 500mA. More and you risk failure from USB jack at back of BDP-1.

No. Straight out of USB jack of BDP, avoid hubs.

Bryston crew can address your other queries.

Enjoy. It's a great player!

You can't damage the BDP by connecting a drive that consumes to much power, if you do plug in a drive that stresses the USB port, it will simply power down.

If you happen to buy a drive that does exceed the 500mA requirement, you should be able to exchange it for a different model. Western digital should be a safe bet as there drives generally don't consume no more then 350mA. However if wd is selling lots of drives they may substitute another manufacturers more power by grey drve in place of there's and stick the wd plastics on it.

There currently is no benefit of replacing the 4GB cf card found in the BDP, to do so requires flashing it with one the images found in the manic moose instructions, following the instructions.

A USB hub should be fine, infact you can use a powered USB hub to bump up the current rating I whatever the current rating of the hub is rated for.

Thanks Chris. I'm having a hard time finding power consumption info on the WD drives.

Is the 1 TB limit for the HD strictly because of the current draw restriction? Can I use a larger drive in either of the rear USB ports if the drive is AC-powered? If so, Is there a limit to the drive capacity that the BDP-1 can access?

TIA

current draw restriction, a usb drive with its own power supply gets around this limitation
