Have a BDA-1/BDP-1 combo. Do I need to download manic moose in order to stream radio?

No, but it may make it easier. Manic Moose includes a large index of streaming radio stations. To stream URLs, I find it most easy to use a 3rd party application to add and save these playlists. GNOME Music Player Client on Linux or Windows is one in particular that lets you add a URL, then save it as a playlist.

There's actually a new beta version of the firmware that includes a text entry box where you can add streaming URLs. Go to the update firmware page, but add #beta to the end and reload the page. The version is from 11/10/14. It IS beta software, so proceed with caution! I do expect this feature will be rolled into a release soon though.
