Can I run balanced outputs from a BP26 into the analogue balanced inputs of an SP3?
If so, what is the most efficient method of volume control?

Yes you can.
Re: volume control
Depends on the configuration. BP 26 has got analog volume control (potentiometer) while SP3 uses a digitally controlled analog chip CS3308. I would recommend to set BP26 volume down so that the SP3 volume is closer to 0dB for the average listening volume. (SP3 control range is -80 to +12dB but the performance is optimal when it is close to 0dB)
How are you using BP26? as a phono preamp?

Thank you, Stan, for your reply.
If I can use my BP26 in this way I get an extra pair of balanced analogue inputs. I have been running a two channel setup (BDP2-BDA2-BP26-4BSTT2) alongside a 5.1 arrangement (Oppo 105 & 83 plus DVD Recorder - SP3). I plan to clear the decks a little by incorporating my stereo system speakers (& amp) into the 5.1 setup which will enable me to get rid of a pair of speakers and simplify matters generally.
Whether I will obtain the same performance from the SP3 in two channel music as I get from the BP26 will be the determining factor.

You will have to test it. SP3 has a 2 channel purely analog bypass mode which may be suitable for your 2 channel sources plus you will have an option of switching to 5.1 and also switching from among many inputs.
